The Spirit of Aviation was alive Sunday, August 23rd at the Potomac Airfield in Berkley Springs, West Virginia.  Members of Chapter 36 and friends gathered together for a picnic hosted by Bob Hixon,  Bob Scott and Mike Vere to celebrate the aviation achievements of member Don Myers.  Don recently finished building his KitFox (right) and has flown 2,540 Young Eagles to date.  When Young Eagles had reached their goal of one million flown, Don was one of the top Young Eagle Pilots for kids flown, if not the highest.

There were a lot of good friends, fellowship and of course, airplanes that flew in.  An assortment of those consisted of RVs, Pipers, Cessnas, Kitfoxes, a Sky Ranger, a Daphne, a Champ and many, many other planes.  When Jack Raun and Betty Wright (right) arrived everyone knew.  Jack's entrance was as noticeable as a P51 at Airventure, you hear 'em before you realize he's there only to watch the tail feathers go by in a red and white blur.  There was even a Paraplane there and a bird, yes a bird.  I don't believe the bird flew in, but it did provide us with entertainment.
The chapter also tried out it's newly purchase 8 burner grill that Ben and Mark put together and fired up.
It was definitely a hit with the cooks!  The hamburgers were then given the honor to be the first food cooked on the grill.  With all the other good food being served up at the picnic, there was plenty to go around. We even had a flyer who was passing over and saw the flock of planes on the ramp, decided to fly on in, landed and joined our gang to which he made a donation to the chapter.
Ben Trillanes brought his flight simulator and set it up.  The simulator was a big hit for all ages.

To sum it up, the day couldn't have been for perfect, weather included.
