FAA's final rule on special awareness training for ADIZ/FRZ airspace

This 1-time training rule requires on-line training via the FAA’s www.faasafety.gov training site for anyone flying VFR within 60NM of DCA VOR.  This will be effective 02/09/09.  Details are in the .pdf file

AOPA wants to be sure you are aware that there have been updates to pilot requirements in your area. Please take note and ensure that you have taken the new, FAA-required online training course to meet these requirements.

Since February 9, 2009, pilots who fly within 60 nautical miles of the Washington, D.C. (DCA) VOR - even if they do not fly into the SFRA (formerly the ADIZ) - must have completed the online Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) training course. The FAA mandated this new training to ensure that all pilots flying near Washington, D.C., are familiar with the special requirements and operational responsibilities associated with this area.

In order to comply with this new requirement, you need to take these two steps:

1.        Take the FAA's Navigating the DC Special Flight Rules Area* online course at
www.aopa.org/adizfaa.

2.        Show your FAA course completion certificate, if requested, within a reasonable time.

*If you have taken this course under it's previous titles (Navigating the New DC ADIZ or Navigating the DC ADIZ, TFRs, and Special Use Airspace), you have fulfilled this requirement and there is no need to complete the course again.
